Get to Know Maya

I am sex positive, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and non-monogamy, polyamory, kink and BDSM friendly.  My focus is helping my clients explore their sexuality, gender identity and alternative relationship practices.

I strongly believe in the power of therapeutic relationship and, having gone through therapy myself, I can attest to its usefulness and healing ability.

I have a background in the performing and visual arts. I love playing piano, singing and noodling around on my ukulele. I also love drawing, digital painting, sketching, doodling and dabbling with various crafts.

I graduated with my masters degree in 2020 and completed my practicum at an elementary school where I worked as a school counselor. My experience is pretty broad-- I worked with kids and families, individuals, couples on a wide variety of issues such as anxiety, frustration, relational and vocational concerns, trauma, depression, parenting stress, low self-esteem, grief and loss, life transitions,  PTSD, rape or sexual violence, dating violence, body image issues, gender and sexual identity concerns, and relationship conflict.

I meet my clients where they are at with openness, compassion, tenderness and curiosity.  My therapeutic approach draws upon the wisdom of several modalities such as person-centered, Gestalt, mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, ACT, IFS as well as my own lived experience. My philosophy is deeply influenced by the work of Esther Perel, Ken Wilber, Marcelo Bronstein, Bessel van der Kolk, Dr. Dan Siegel and Irvin Yalom.

I have training in healing trauma using the following therapeutic approaches: ACT (Acceptance and Commitment therapy) am pursuing certification in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), IFS (Internal Family Systems) and Imago (Authentic relating).  I am an ally for both LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities.
